As part of Egypt Independent’s celebrations of the holy month of Ramadan, we are inviting you take part in our first photo contest, “Whirling with Rumi.”
Over the next three days, we will be publishing a quote or verse by the 13th century Sufi scholar, poet and mystic Jalal al-Din Rumi — one quote a day — and asking you to experiment with presenting or re-interpreting it with a single photograph you shoot at home, work, on the street … the sky is the limit.
The most creative photo response to each quote will be published in our weekly print edition, and the runner-ups will be posted on our tumblr page. Please send your images by midnight on Sunday 12 August to email@example.com
DAY 1: Learn a trade through which you can earn the income of forgiveness in the next world!
DAY 2: My poetry is like Egyptian bread: Night passes, and you cannot eat it.
DAY 3: Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
